Richard Theodore Greener (1844-1922) was the first Black graduate of Harvard University (Class of 1870). His papers, including his Harvard diploma, his law license, photos and papers connected to his diplomatic role in Russia and his friendship with President Ulysses S. Grant, were recently discovered in an attic on the South Side of Chicago - just before the house was demolished. Absolutely MONUMENTAL!

So I went to The Hideout last night for the #HowToBeBlack Chicago launch party. It’s funny, because I was probably the only one dressed like I was going to see a show at The Hideout, not like I was going to go to a book reading. I bumped into a co-worker, too, so that was a pleasant surprise.

The two comedians that opened for Baratunde Thurston were Will Miles (@MrWillMiles) and Samantha Irby (@WordScience)—both hilarious. @ErnestWilkins was the host—also hilarious. It was good to have gut-busting laughter for a couple of hours. I got my book signed and then I went home in some really spitty weather. Good outing!
