A 300 percent increase in tuition and lackluster financial aid from state schools is making elite private universities look more appealing. As the state has cut billions of dollars from education budgets over the past few years, California’s universities have begun admitting more out-of-state students, who pay triple the tuition. This makes private schools resting on billion-dollar endowments appear way more attractive to their accepted students.
So I went to The Hideout last night for the #HowToBeBlackChicago launch party. It’s funny, because I was probably the only one dressed like I was going to see a show at The Hideout, not like I was going to go to a book reading. I bumped into a co-worker, too, so that was a pleasant surprise.
The two comedians that opened for Baratunde Thurston were Will Miles (@MrWillMiles) and Samantha Irby (@WordScience)—both hilarious. @ErnestWilkins was the host—also hilarious. It was good to have gut-busting laughter for a couple of hours. I got my book signed and then I went home in some really spitty weather. Good outing!
